A Chakra Rebalancing Meditation

This exercise can be done anytime you feel tired, stressed or stuck.

Make yourself comfortable. Close your eyes. Take a deep breath in and exhale out.

Allow your breathing to become more and more relaxed.

Rub your hands together. Feel the energy.

Now take your hands and lightly place them at the base of your spine – the root chakra. This chakra is red.  Your root chakra keeps you grounded and helps you navigate everyday life. Now picture a ball of red light glowing in this area. This is actual energy, not just a picture in your mind’s eye. With each breath start to feel more anchored and secure. Breathe in red light and let this energy rebalance your first chakra.

Now place your hands about two inches below your belly button – the sacral chakra. This chakra is orange. Breathe in healing orange light and direct it to this area. As you continue to flood the sacral chakra with orange energy - let go of any emotional energy, stress or discomfort.  Be here a moment and let the orange energy rebalance your second chakra.

Gently move your hands and rest them on your upper abdomen– the solar plexus chakra. This chakra is yellow. Deeply inhale yellow light into this area and let go of any negative thoughts, emotions and past experiences. Spend some time allowing the solar plexus chakra to rebalance itself.

Next, put your hands on your chest - the heart chakra. This chakra is green and symbolizes self–love and love for others. With each breath, allow more and more love into your heart. Feel at peace as harmony flows through your chest and rebalances your heart chakra.

Now move your hands to your neck – the throat chakra. This chakra is a vibrant blue color. Here is where you communicate your truth to the world and where you express to others the beauty you see. Feel this blue energy soaking into your throat chakra and restoring balance.

Next place your hands on your forehead - the third eye chakra. This chakra is an indigo color. This is your intuition and wisdom center - where you see and align to knowledge. Breathe in indigo and let this energy rebalance your third eye chakra.

Now gently touch the top of your head - the crown chakra. This chakra is purple. This is your connection to Universal Energy – U.E is everywhere and in everyone. Deeply breathe in purple and allow a feeling of oneness and connectedness to rebalance your crown charka and spread down throughout your body.

Now spend a few minutes tuning in to your 7 chakras and experience them healthy, balanced and open.

Continue to breathe. When you are ready gently open your eyes.

What are Chakras?

Chakras are subtle energy centers found in the body that communicate energetic information between your body and your soul.

There are seven major chakras in your body. Each chakra has a different vibrational quality and function to keep you aligned and healthy.

Chakras regulate the flow of subtle energy throughout the body. When a chakra is balanced you feel happy and harmonious. When a chakra is blocked or imbalanced it will affect your physical, emotional, mental and spiritual wellbeing.

An Introduction to The Chakra System

First chakra (Root Chakra). Color Red. Location: Base of your spine.

The first chakra relates to life and survival in the physical world, including where you live, where you work and how you navigate day-to-day life.
The first chakra facilitates grounding and stability. Grounding acts as an anchor for the body and helps you deal with stress and problems in a calm and balanced way. Grounding also protects your body from being overwhelmed by the higher frequencies in the upper chakras.

Second Chakra (Sacral Chakra). Color Orange. Location: Belly button.

The second chakra relates to your feelings, sexual energy and emotions. By tapping into and not blocking your emotions, you allow a more harmonious flow of energy to move throughout your body.

Third Chakra (Solar Plexus Chakra). Color Yellow. Location: Solar Plexus.

The third chakra is in the solar plexus and relates to your personal power and how you run your energy. It deals with issues of willpower, purpose and action.

Fourth Chakra (Heart Chakra). Color green. Location: Chest.

The fourth chakra relates to love, compassion, self-acceptance and relationships.  The heart chakra is your spiritual center and is the gateway between the lower (body) chakras and the higher (spirit) chakras.

Fifth Chakra (Throat Chakra). Color bright blue. Location: Throat.

The fifth chakra relates to creativity, communication and the ability to speak your truth. It allows you to become aware of your inner voice so you always know what is best for you.

Sixth Chakra (Third Eye Chakra). Color indigo. Location: Center of your head.

The sixth chakra is the link between your inner world and your outer world. The sixth chakra is also known as the third eye, a subtle energy center that deals with psychic abilities, intuition and wisdom.

Seventh Chakra (Crown Chakra). Color Violet. Location: Top of your head.

The crown chakra connects you to your spiritual energy. This chakra is associated with knowledge, understanding, awareness and your relationship to the divine.  It allows you to be at one with the Universe and experience the interconnectedness of life.

The more you know about your chakras, the more you can stay connected to your life force energy! When your chakras are clear and unblocked, your energy will flow more smoothly and you will notice more energy and vibrancy in your life. You will start to feel more empowered, calm and peaceful in any situation and at any time.

Check back next time - the focus will be on how to clear and re-balance your chakras.

Helping Opens Your Heart!

Sophie – a two-year old German Sheperd – came into my life when I was volunteering at a local pet adoption fair.

After the adoption fair, Sophie went to a foster home. I thought about her often and wondered how she was doing.

A few weeks later, I was at an event and heard that Sophie was moving to a rescue near me. I offered to come and walk her, spend time with her and be part of the team to help find her a loving home.

I really wanted to help Sophie find that special person to love on her and give her the life that she deserved. I was not able to offer her a home myself so this was the next best thing that I could do.

Then, Sophie got attacked by another dog and needed stitches in her front leg. During her recovery, she kept pulling the stitches out – preventing the leg from healing properly.

I was at a loss as to what to do.

To be honest, the timing wasn’t great: it was Thanksgiving week and I had a million things going on. Her medical situation was adding another layer of stress to the situation, but I loved Sophie as if she were my own dog!

Sometimes when you feel this way, you have to just jump right in!

Although I could not find a foster to take Sophie in, I was told that her vet boards animals! It was perfect! I booked her a suite (ha) so she could get the care and attention she needed to begin her healing journey.

I try and do something that is of service each day. It can be something small, like buying a coffee for the homeless person who sits outside my local Peets, or something big like co-fostering Sophie until she finds her new home.

Whenever I take the time to help someone, I feel a genuine connection and opening of my heart chakra.

Imagine all the love and positive energy on the planet if everyone did one small thing each day to help another living being. Imagine the world we would live in! I invite you to take just a few minutes today and do something for another person (or animal!).

Here is the divine Miss Sophie…
