One of the first energy techniques I ever learnt was how to create a grounding cord. A grounding cord is an energy connection that goes from your body down into the Earth. This cord acts like an anchor that keeps your body safe and helps you release unwanted energy from your space.
Not only are we picking up energy from external sources, but we are generating our own energy through emotional thoughts, fears, beliefs and past experiences.
When you have too much energy running through your body, it's easy to become stressed out and anxious. Grounding helps your body begin to relax and keeps you in the present moment so that you can respond to situations rather than react.
You can ground yourself anywhere and anytime!
How to Ground
Sit in a comfortable chair with your feet on ground.
Close your eyes and start to focus inwards.
Take a couple of nice deep breaths. Every day is different, some days it's really easy to connect to your breath and feel it move down into your belly, other days, depending on what is going on for you it may be more of a process. Just be gentle and take whatever time you need to experience nice long inhalations.
Relax as you breathe, begin to tune into how your body feels.
Shift your attention down to your first chakra. Chakras are energy centers that reside within the body. There are 7 major chakras throughout the body. The one that we will use to ground ourselves is the first chakra, located near the base of the spine.
Be aware of this area and allow a cord of energy to flow downward from your body: Through the chair you are sitting in, through the floor, passing down through the buildingís foundation and into the soil. Allow your grounding cord to flow down past all the rocks and layers until it reaches the center of the planet.
When the cord reaches the Earth's center, see it connected securely to your first chakra. Now go ahead and extend the cord as wide as your hips and see the entire cord at this new width.
Hollow out your grounding cord and start to let go of any person, place, thought or emotion that appears, allow them to simply drain away. Release any distraction, anxiety and tension down your grounding cord. Breathe, relax and begin to let go. Notice how your body responds to your grounding cord.
Once you get the hang of grounding you can get creative. Some cords I like to use are a waterfall, redwood tree, or any tree for the matter as well as a beam of light.
Just see whatever you use begin at your first chakra and drop down to the center of the planet.
