Break the Cycle of Boredom

Last week, I re-watched one of the newer Star Trek movies.

In this particular movie, the scene opens with Captain Kirk (Chris Pine) sitting in the Enterprise bridge.

Kirk and his crew are on a space mission and they have been traveling for years.

Each day is tedious and a repetition of the previous day. Kirk is depressed, lonely and bored.

Does this sound familiar? Are you stuck in a cycle of tedium? Do you feel that life is passing you by?

If this is the case, it might be a sign that something in your life is misaligned spiritually and that it's time to make a change.

Common Feelings of Misalignment
-Feeling stuck
-Boredom
-Monotony
-Negativity
-Fear of trying new things
-Feeling blocked
-Feeling disconnected from your intuition
-Feeling shutdown

The first step in getting realigned is to acknowledge that there is a problem, that something is out of sync.

Tune into yourself to get clarity on what's not working. Take notes, write down the problem. Keep a journal.

Anytime you are about to make a change in your life, it’s a good idea to get an intuitive reading. Don’t make changes out of panic or because you’re reacting to something. You should make intentional changes that are guided by your higher self.

Take action to create your change. Even small steps in the right direction make a big difference.

Finally, you should accept that continual change is a part of life and get comfortable with the process.

Making Yourself Ready for Change

Many clients who come to me do so because they are looking to change things in their lives. Common themes seem to be: improving relationships (or finding new ones), changing old emotional patterns, or discovering work that is more in alignment with their passion.

To successfully change your life in a meaningful way, there are certain obstacles that need to be addressed and cleared.

The first thing required is openness. Openness gives you the elasticity to change behavioral and emotional patterns. It gives you a wider lens to look at your situation. Being open to new things usually comes with some initial discomfort and unease, so you need to be willing to tolerate these feelings while it is happening. Remember, you are not going to die and it’s just a moment in time.

We all have personal narratives that we use to define ourselves. I have found that many narratives feel like they are true only because you repeat them so many times! Your spiritual self might be trying to communicate a different story, so be open to rewriting your narrative based on information from your spirit.

Perfect pictures are unreasonable expectations that create all-or-nothing scenarios. Change is a gradual, incremental process, so letting go of perfect pictures allows you ease up on yourself and to make progress at a pace that works for you.

Rationalizations and excuses are defense mechanisms generated by fear, avoidance and the unwillingness to commit to the process. If you find yourself coming up with excuses to avoid doing something that you know would ultimately be good for you, take a moment to go within and tune into the underlying reason or fear that is preventing you from moving forward.

Even though there will be some uncomfortable moments while preparing yourself for change, it just means that you are growing and expanding. Something new and interesting will come into your life as a result of taking these first steps. I promise!!

What Lies Beneath?

One night last week, I found myself in front of the television. My entertainment...one of those extreme weight loss "turn your life around" shows.

At the beginning of the hour, we were introduced to Bob, a former athlete, who is now a Wisconsin police detective. At 448 lbs., he needs to lose weight, both for his health and to be able to pass a fitness test to keep his job.

It's hard to get a sense of who Bob is underneath all of his extra weight. His energy is heavy and dull. Bob's stories are full of regret and failure for letting his life slip away like this.

A pattern emerges: every time Bob is faced with an uncomfortable or challenging situation, he reaches for food. He can't stop eating!

He is unable to tune into anything that is going on with him, or connect to his emotions, thoughts or feelings.

It becomes clear that Bob is using food to keep him disconnected from his true nature and from creating what he really wants in life.

As Bob's weight loss journey continues, so does his transformation. With each new challenge, more of Bob's energy returns.

While Bob ultimately would have lost his job, this alone was not enough to make him want to lose 253 pounds. He wants his life back! He wants to feel good about himself, to feel healthy and to connect with other people!

As he becomes physically fit, he comes out of his shell emotionally and reaches out to help his community. Bob and a friend do a swim for the Wounded Warrior Project and they raise $5000!

Change happens when you decide what you want and where you want your energy to be. The first step is taking responsibility for your energy and deciding what change you want to create.

Here are a few tips that I use when I am going through a change:

  • Focus on how good this change is going to make you feel. Picture it in your mind and allow your body to already be in this new place.
  • Be open and present to new emotions, thoughts and feelings that may arise as a result of becoming more in tune with yourself.
  • Use grounding to help you release old fears, anxieties and beliefs. For example, you might be someone that believes change is really hard and scary. That you have tried in the past and failed so why try again…
  • Get additional support through groups, blogs, classes and friends, anyone that can relate and validate your journey.
  • When you consciously move your energy to a new level, things in your life will change to support this new state of being. Trust me on this!
  • The more you can relax, the calmer and gentler this process will be on your body.
  • Don't forget to nurture yourself and have fun along the way!

Let me know how it goes!

Summer Love

For those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, yesterday was the Summer Solstice!

This is the time when our hemisphere is bathed in the most sunlight and the energy is at its strongest.

It's a great time of the year to reconnect with your higher self so you can consciously create what you really want.

Blocks and old patters become illuminated so you can be aware of new opportunities for growth and transformation.

SPECIAL SUMMER SOLSTICE READING

This is the perfect reading to recharge your mind, body and spirit. During the reading, I will look at any old beliefs and programs that might be shutting you down energetically and keeping you from being open to the next step along your path. I recommend it for anyone wanting to experience change and new energy!

Last Healing Night was a total success! Come and join us this Monday 24th for a gentle and relaxing guided meditation. It's a wonderful way to get some 'you' time as well as connect with like-minded souls. It's between 6:30pm and 8pm at Stretch, 2509 Bush Street, San Francisco. I was inspired by a recent story featuring the San Francisco SPCA, so all proceeds from the evening will go to them. Healing Night is by donation and friends are welcome!
