Reclaim Your Power!

Negative, stressful things happen! We all know someone (or maybe it’s us) who is going through a difficult time - a relationship issue, job loss or a health issue.

When these things happen, you tend to feel powerless. Your sense of strength and purpose is challenged. Anxiety kicks in and the nagging voice of worry and self-doubt takes over.

Situations where you feel unempowered create blocks and imbalances in your third Chakra.

The third Chakra is your energetic power center. It’s located above your belly button in the solar plexus. Confidence and self-esteem come from a healthy third Chakra

So - what can you do to regain your power when life throws you a curveball?

It sounds like a cliché, but it starts with taking a deep breath.

Bringing oxygen to your solar plexus will cleanse and re-energize your Chakra and restore the flow of energy. Also, focusing on your breath will help quiet your mind.

Take deep controlled breaths. Focus on the air gently moving in and filling your belly. With each exhale, feel the stress and negativity releasing.

If your mind starts to chatter, pause and then re-focus on your breathing.

Once your mind is quiet, continue to breathe deeply and imagine a bright golden ball of energy coming down over your head. As the gold light moves down through your body, you feel it healing and restoring every part of you.

See the energy reach your solar plexus. Feel the doubt and anxiety being washed away. Continue to breathe.

When you feel restored, allow the energy to continue down through your body and out through the soles of your feet.

Getting Reconnected

There may be times in your life when you feel blocked and things aren’t going well.

You feel disconnected. You feel overwhelmed by things happening around you - politics, environmental issues, disasters, suffering - and also things happening directly to you like health, family, relationship and financial issues.

When these things happen, you become fearful and old habits and defense mechanisms kick in.

These situations often leave you feeling powerless and shut off from your energy - you feel the Universe is not available to you in that moment.

The opposite is true. You have infinite Universal energy that can empower you to face any situation and create new solutions.

Getting reconnected to your energy is the key. When you do, you will begin to notice your energy flowing again and your mind and heart begin to open. You will feel light, alive and in the moment. From this place, you gain a new perspective, a new sense of calm and will often come up with a creative solution.

Getting reconnected is easy! The fastest and simplest way is through breath. Here's a simple breath technique that I use when things start to go awry:

Breath Technique

  1. Sit in a comfortable chair
  2. Close your eyes (this helps you to focus inward).
  3. Gently breathe in through your nose and send oxygen down into your belly. Exhale out through your mouth.
  4. Continue to inhale deeply through your nose and out through your mouth - this will slow your heart rate
  5. With each exhalation, feel your mental chatter and stress being released
  6. Focus on your breath so that you can continue to let go of your blocks, fears and distractions.
  7. Allow yourself to sink deeper into total stillness.
  8. When you find that place of stillness, give yourself some time to experience it.
  9. If you do not immediately find this place, don't worry. Try focusing on gold light to help calm your mind. Visualize the gold light entering your body with each breath.
  10. When you feel yourself restored, take a moment to enjoy this new feeling.

Healing Your Feelings

Everyone experiences emotional pain. It is part of learning and growing. Pain brings attention to parts of yourself that need a healing.

Perhaps as a child you had an alcoholic parent who wasn’t able to create emotional space for you. Since you never learned how to feel safe with your feelings, you tend to hold back in relationships. 

Maybe you had your heart broken and the fear of getting hurt again stops you from putting yourself out there. Your head is constantly telling you it’s much better to fly solo than to put your trust in someone else again.

When you give in to these fears you create energetic blocks in your chakras. Over time these blocks manifest as anxiety, sadness, avoidance, fear of the future as well as physical symptoms.

It’s not uncommon to engage in obsessive or addictive behavior to distract yourself from these painful feelings.

Rather than empower negative and difficult emotions, try to embrace them and make space for them.  

By bringing your emotions into the light and tuning into the underlying patterns, your higher self is free to start healing the wounds.

Breath, meditation, grounding and energy work are all great ways to assist with this process and get you more connected!

Here’s a grounding exercise to help. Use your breath and release down your grounding cord anything that is keeping you feeling disconnected from your feelings.

Calming Color Meditation

  • Sit down somewhere comfortable
  • Close your eyes and take a couple of nice, deep, gentle breaths
  • Breathe in through your nose and down into your belly
  • Go ahead and choose a color that relaxes you – if you're not sure which color relaxes you see my list below and pick the one that speaks to you...
  • Using this color, create a ball of energy directly over your head
  • Begin to bring this ball slowly down through the top of your head 
  • Inhale and let this energy move gently down through your head, neck and shoulders
  • Allow it to wash away tension and distracting thoughts
  • See it continue down the front and back of your chest
  • Gently move this energy down through your abdomen and lower back
  • Continue to release any discomfort and stress
  • Soak in the color and move it gently over your pelvis, hips and thighs
  • Feel the energy move down your legs, relaxing all the muscles
  • With each breath you feel more relaxed, more at peace, and more in tune with yourself
  • Look down at your feet and see the energy glide out through the toes
  • Take a moment to scan your body and become aware of any pain or blocks. Create a ball of golden energy above your head. Allow this gold light to go to the parts of your body that still need healing. Let it absorb and neutralize the energy of these things.
  • Now go ahead and choose a different color. Feel the flow of energy moving from the top of your head all the way down and out your feet. How does your body feel at this new vibration?

I work with many different colors and have found the following to be true for me:

  • Red helps me ground and clears out fear
  • Orange supports self-healing and makes me joyful
  • Yellow keeps me positive and in present time
  • Green helps me stay calm and balanced
  • Blue clears my mind and assists with confidence, clarity and certainty
  • Indigo connects me to my creativity
  • Violet fills me with a greater sense of purpose and keeps me centered
  • Gold aligns me with Universal energy, unconditional love and peace

Experiment with every color so you can become conscious of the vibrations that work the best for your energy system. Different colors will help at different times. And remember, there is no such thing as a bad color!

Here is a simple meditation for you to listen to.

Meditation is a wonderful way to help you release stress and be more present.

It’s a good idea to find somewhere nice and quiet and sit in a comfortable chair with your feet on the floor. This will help you stay grounded and allows for a good flow of energy.
